Trophy Club, TX (May 27, 2020) – The Town of Trophy Club is excited to announce the Community Pool is set to have a one day only soft opening on Saturday, June 13 followed by the summer season opening on Saturday, June 20. Due to precautions around COVID-19, the delay will allow for extra time to hire and train seasonal personnel on current health recommendations in addition to allowing time to prepare the facility to meet current safety guidelines. Though a few weeks late with a delayed opening, staff is taking extra precautions to help our community stay safe and healthy. We are looking forward to spending the summer with Trophy Club families at the Community Pool.
Governor Abbott’s Executive Order GA-18 presented on April 17, stated outdoor swimming pools may operate at up to 25% of normal operating limits as determined by the pool operator; and local public swimming pools may operate only if permitted by the local government. The CDC states there is no evidence that COVID-19 is transmitted through water. In fact, the use of proper chemicals in outdoor pools will kill most germs. Challenges arise when patrons get out of the pool and are roaming about on the deck, sitting on the lounge chairs, touching handrails and Splash Pad features, or on the stairs leading up to the slides. As such, many additional safeguards have been put in place to assure compliance with mandatory social distancing and handwashing guidelines. Hand washing stations, hand sanitizer stations, and additional soap dispensers will be strategically placed throughout the facility to help alleviate the spreading of germs.
Below is a list of restrictions in effect for the 2020 summer pool season. At this time, patrons are asked to plan accordingly when arriving and leaving the facility:
The Community Pool will offer a one day only soft opening on Saturday, June 13 with two-time blocks: 11 AM – 2 PM and 4 PM – 7 PM at 25% capacity. The 25% capacity will allow for 67 individuals to be within the facility at one time. This number includes swimmers and non-swimmer patrons. The soft opening will only be open to residents who reserve a time block through the Parks and Recreation Department. Residents are asked to email email@example.com in order to reserve a spot. Reservations will be on a first-come, first-serve basis for residents and immediate family members only and will only be for use of the Competition and Kiddie Pool as the Splash Pad is closed at this time (due to maintenance purposes).
The Community Pool will officially open for the summer season on Saturday, June 20 with a modified schedule. The Competition and Kiddie Pool will be operating in a limited capacity. The Splash Pad is currently undergoing maintenance updates and will open as soon as those are complete (staff is working hard in hopes it will be late June or early July).
Competition and Kiddie Pool Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.Friday-Sunday: 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.Thursday: Closed
Splash Pad Hours: (UPON OPENING)Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.Friday-Sunday: 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.Thursday: Closed
The Community Pool will open at a 25% occupancy rate – 67 individuals within the facility at one time. This number includes swimmers and non-swimmers.
Entrance into the facility is on a first-come, first-serve basis and cannot be guaranteed. Community Pool staff will be monitoring patron numbers and will grant admission when the capacity of the facility (25% or 67 people) is not met.
Staff will continue to monitor all recommendations and guidelines set forth by the governor and public health officials. Occupancy rates, operations, and scheduling may vary throughout the summer. Residents are asked to check the town’s website and Trophy Club Parks & Rec Facebook page for the most up to date information on the Community Pool.
Trophy Club Community Pool will be offering prorated memberships for the 2020 Summer Season. TC residents can purchase their membership online only at www.tcparks.org. Staff will print membership cards and have them ready for the resident by the time they arrive at the pool. After careful consideration of the risks of gathering in large groups, it has been decided that there will be no pool reservations for this season.
While the Competition and Kiddie pools prep for opening, patrons, and swimmers are still expected to follow social distancing guidelines. This creates a challenge for swim instructors, since teaching someone how to swim is a very hands-on activity involving a great deal of physical contact. This is especially challenging for beginners or pre-school swimmers who cannot support themselves independently in the water. In this case, social distancing between instructors and swimmers could lead to preventable water emergencies.
Unfortunately, for this and other logistical reasons, there will be no swim lessons offered for the 2020 pool season. However, the Aquatics staff will be releasing a video series on basic water skills throughout the summer. The videos will focus on beginner and intermediate level swim technique and will include water safety topics. They will be available to the public and will serve as a guideline for parents looking to teach their own children at home.
Finally, due to the strict guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the cancelation by TAAF of all Region IV circuit meets and Summer Games, the 2020 Tritons summer season has been canceled. The Tritons Swim Team has been a staple in the Trophy Club community for over 25 years, providing a swim community to nearly 250 swimmers each year. Our goal has always been to provide a safe environment for our swimmers and coaching staff and we look forward to seeing our Tritons in 2021.
